Phoenix Domestic Abuse Services maintains robust partnerships with universities across South Wales, offering professional placements that provide invaluable, real-world experience to students from various academic backgrounds. Our service regularly hosts placements for social work students across all levels—first, second, and third years—where they gain a comprehensive understanding of all facets of our operations. These placements are designed to foster both knowledge and confidence as students develop practical skills in a supportive and guided environment.
During their time with us, students have the opportunity to engage in direct, impactful work with individuals and families affected by domestic abuse, allowing them to witness firsthand the challenges faced by those impacted. This hands-on experience is a critical component of their learning, helping them to see the real-world implications of abuse on mental health, family dynamics, and community safety.
In addition, we collaborate with postgraduate students across disciplines to undertake research projects that contribute to our service development. These projects provide fresh insights and innovative approaches, enabling us to refine and expand our service delivery. Through research, students can help us explore new ways to challenge abusive behaviours, promote healthy relationships, and support long-term change within our community. Our commitment to student development reflects our belief in cultivating future professionals equipped with the skills and understanding necessary to make a lasting difference in the lives of those affected by domestic abuse.
